The ImmersionRC PowerPlay solves that. Plug your camcorder in and it records straight to MicroSD in 60fps digital, no cassette involved. Works with most MiniDV, Hi8, and Digital8 camcorders, the cable you need depends on which AV output your specific camera has, see below.

Later Sony Handycams (DCR-HC, DCR-SX, DCR-DVD, DCR-SR, HDR-CX/FX series) use a 10-pin connector. We don't carry this cable yet.

This listing includes the DVR and the two 18500 Li-ion batteries it needs to run. These aren't AA batteries, they're the specific 18500 Li-ion cells the PowerPlay is built for, already in the box so you don't have to source them separately. You'll still need a camcorder A/V cable, unless you've already got one from an old setup, check the kits below.
